Imported Saiga 12 shotguns were never sold as finished high-performance guns. Many owners discover that after a stock-style conversion, or after a parts kit install, the shotgun still will not run the cheap birdshot, mixed buckshot, and slugs they actually buy. Lone Star Arms treats the Saiga 12 as a complete system. The gun is taken down to the barrel and receiver. OEM parts and 922r components are refined, honed, fitted, tuned, and balanced so the shotgun can cycle a wide range of commercial 2¾" and 3" 12-gauge ammunition.

That last point is the reason most people ship a Saiga here. Lone Star Arms builds are known for running loads that other Saiga 12, Vepr 12, and KS-12 builds often will not. No semi-auto shotgun is perfect with every shell. The shop’s standard is a usable gun that eats a wide commercial diet — not a range toy that only likes one high-brass load.

What “conversion” means on this page

On this site, Saiga 12 conversion means a high-performance rebuild of your lawfully owned shotgun. It is not a menu of illegal configurations and it is not a how-to for evading state or federal rules. Configuration questions are handled case by case against the law that applies to you. If you cannot lawfully own the firearm as configured in your state and municipality, Lone Star Arms will not take the job.

922r, in general terms only

Saiga 12 work often involves U.S.-made parts used to satisfy 18 U.S.C. § 922(r) on imported sporting shotguns that have been reconfigured. Lone Star Arms uses 922r-compliant components where the build requires them and fits those parts as part of the same refine-hone-tune process — not as a bolt-on afterthought. This page does not publish a parts count, a shopping list, or advice on how to structure a firearm to dodge the statute. If 922r applies to your gun, it will be discussed in the quote.

What the $1,200 rebuild is

The $1,200 comprehensive rebuild is the performance job: full takedown, inspection, and system work so the Saiga cycles. Customization — furniture, sights, brakes, recoil systems, magazines you already own, finish requests — is quoted on top of that work. Typically a high-performance build with customization lands between $1,200 and $2,500. Return shipping is an additional flat $50 via USPS Priority Mail Adult Signature Service.

Ammo reliability

Owners send Saiga 12s here because stock and “good enough” conversions choke on bulk birdshot or change personality when the shell changes. Customer letters on the Testimonials page describe cheap Federal target loads, Walmart bulk #8, slugs, and 00 buck running in the same gun. The Videos page shows an LSA rebuild cycling Wolf 1 oz slugs, Winchester PDX1, and Federal Game Shock after another shop’s expensive work left the gun effectively non-functional.

If you train a lot, that reliability is the cost argument. About copy on this site notes that a gun which runs inexpensive low-brass and duty buck lets you practice with the same platform you keep for defense. Specific ammo-cost figures vary by market; the principle does not: a picky Saiga is an expensive paperweight.

Who sends a Saiga 12

Private owners, 3-gun shooters, and working law enforcement have all used Lone Star Arms Saiga 12 work. Chief Terry Krelle wrote that Central City PD adopted an LSA Saiga 12 as the official patrol shotgun. Other letters on file come from U.S. Border Patrol, retired naval special-operations officers, and owners who simply wanted a home-defense gun that would run. Read those letters on the Testimonials page. They are not rewritten here.
